URI corpse flower: Weekend viewing hours announced
No bloom yet but URI offering weekend hours for public to see unique greenhouse specimen

KINGSTON, R.I. – June 12, 2026 – The University of Rhode Island’s Horridge Conservatory, part of its botanical greenhouses, has enjoyed many visitors this week to see its largest resident corpse flower (Titan Arum, Amorphophallus titanum) in its growing stage. The plant has not yet decided to bloom but the University is adding weekend hours so the public can visit. (See livestream here.)
Although predicting the plant’s exact opening is difficult, Benjamin Robbins, URI’s greenhouse manager, said the greenhouse will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, June 13 and 14, for the public to see the corpse flower. When the bloom arrives, extended viewing hours will be announced on URI social media so plant-lovers have a chance to experience this rare event. (If the flower blooms early, hours may change; see URI’s social media for updates on open hours.)

Greenhouse staff have been happy to see all the public interest in one of its more unique specimens. “This is what it’s all about!” Robbins, a staff member in URI’s College of the Environment and Life Sciences, said this week.
The conservatory also welcomes support for its program to help feed and grow future corpse flowers and other specimens that the public can enjoy. Donations can be made to the University’s botanical gardens through the URI Foundation.
