Switching Farms for our CSA

I received a very sad (to me) but glad (for him) email from our Farmer Joe.  He is discontinuing his CSA to focus more on his animal programs (rent a chick, duck or quail and hatch a chick, duck or quail).  We have considered this too (you can get a hen or larger amount of birds, hen house, all food and supplies needed for a set number of months) to see if you want to make the lifetime commitment to having your own flock.  Unfortunately now is not the time for our house to participate.

I have had a CSA with Joe and Ida for at least 6 years if not more.  I do wish them all the best in their changeover to this new business model.

So, I have switched to his brother's farm, Defrancesco Farm in Northford, which is actually closer to my home.  AND their eldest child was once a student of our music studio.   So I will get to see another family that I know weekly starting in June.  I did a full share for $485 dollars (I used the discount code DEFRANCESCO to receive $5 off)  They also have a medium share for $378 dollars.

Below is directly from their website.

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. Households and individuals may sign up to purchase a share of the Connecticut harvest starts the week of June 17th to end of September. This is 14 weeks of good eating!

You can purchase your weekly share knowing that we will pick you the freshest vegetables every week. As each vegetable starts to mature and ripen, we will include it in your basket.

Our family will hand select the best of the week’s harvest for you. The actual content of the boxes vary with each weekly harvest. It all depends on the weather and growing season. We will have lettuces, peppers, eggplants, squashes, cucumbers, beans, tomatoes, cantaloupe, our famous corn, and a few surprises, but not limited to just these items. We eat everything we grow, so you can be assured that we use an integrated pest management program to produce the safest, healthiest, and most delicious produce we can.
