January 2020 food costs and current USDA food plan cost chart

For those of you who are interested, this is what the USDA felt were reasonable food plan costs



January 4th Misfits Market $50.12  You can see all the details HERE

January 5th Aldi $38.15 Large loaf of white bread, Reduced Calorie Wheat Bread, 2 pack Artisan flatbread, English Muffins,  2 cheese blocks, Chicken strips, 2 cream cheese, skinny bagels, gallon milk, Sliced yam, Blue Cheese, sour cream, mushrooms, 3 bags of tortilla chips.

January 12th SoNo Bakery in Norwalk (special field trip) $51 A dozen English muffins all frozen (I really need to learn how to make these) 2 loaves of sourdough bread and 2 foccoccia for DH.

January 13th Big Y 37.75 Cinnamon Babka, 4 blueberry lemon scones, 4 greek yogurts on clearance for .28 cents each, 4 dozen eggs, Fairlife Milk, Sunkist Diet 12 pack and a pound of shrimp

January 20th Aldi $18.50 Gallon of Milk 2.80 lb of bananas, 16 ounce mushrooms, 3 lbs of yellow onions, Spreadable butter, Oyster crackers, 2 lbs of sweet onions, 45 calorie wheat bread, white bread and Pane Italian sliced round loaf.  

January 20th Shoprite Home $59.49   5 lbs of potatoes, 2 Thomas' English muffins, large Tropicana orange, 10 Campbells Tomato Soup, 4 sourcream, 2 twelve packs Diet Sunkist, 4.54 lbs of Chicken leg quarters, 4 one pound bags of frozen salmon.  

January 23rd BJ's Wholesale. $4.06   2 bags of Potato Chips, Daisy Sour Cream (2) Tomatoes, Blue cheese dressing, Herb Baby lettuce mix, 24 ounces mushrooms.  $4.06 after member rewards and coupons.  Woooohoooo

January 28th Aldi $38.23 six bags of assorted chips (superbowl) celery, broccoli crowns, 2 packages of chicken strips, cheese, speck, chopped walnuts, 2 pesto sauce, 2 bagels and a gallon of milk.

Total spend was $336.80 an average of $85 a week.  I'm thrilled.  I am below the thrifty plan per week for the 3 adults (and sometimes 4 or 5)  Granted I did not purchase many proteins this month....and I still have plenty in the freezers.  I hope I can keep this up.  How did you do in January?
