I took Mom to the local to her CT Food share pickup. I decided I should not take photos, just in case I catch someone on film.
We were there our usual time, but there weren't as many people as in past times I have brought her. The line did end up becoming very long behind us. Everyone is given a card, that you place in a container at the beginning of the distribution table. At first I wasn't sure there was very much as we got closer, but I was very, very wrong.
First we were offered 4 coconut (non dairy) yogurts. She said no thank you.
She did say yes to
Cantaloupe, 3 red peppers, 6 tomatoes, bunch of asparagus, bag of mandarin oranges, Napa cabbage, strawberries, 2 large bags of flavored popcorn, raisin cinnamon bread, brioche caramel bread and brioche style sandwich rolls.
Very generous. I am so grateful that she now allows us to bring her to this. She goes twice a month. I think it's a way for her to have a greater variety without her depending on us so much. A sense of independence. We also were able to get her a small SNAP allotment ($23) each month. She used to spend under $100 for the month on groceries. As all prices went up, her other needs (laundry soap, personal hygiene, paper products) her budget was falling short. Now she doesn't have to choose.
