Back to Tracking Food Purchases Starting in October

Now that our Farm Share is Over (pout) and the Gardens are almost done, I have to start spending more time purchasing groceries.   These totals are only for groceries.

October 2, Big Y $46.61      Mainly dairy.  Block Cream Cheese (2) whipped cream cheese (1) Spreadable butter (2) Cottage Cheese with Chive, Wheat Crackers, Wasa sourdough crackers and celery.

October 5, Stop and Shop    $98.83    pork tenderloin, 3 Jimmy dean delights sandwich packs (DD requested) 2 Boxed Stock, 3 cases bottled water, brussel sprouts, 2 large tomato, grits, potato bread (2), 1/2 pound each American white cheese, German bologna, baked ham, genoa salami, turkey breast, Virginia ham, Apple juice, apple cider donuts (2), Carmelized onion and thyme gravy

October 5  BJ's wholesale   $99.91 4 Stok Cold Brew,  Heinz gravy (3 pk) 3.56 lb stew beef, 5 lbs carrots, 3 lbs sweet potatoes, 5 lb white potato,  guacamole, 1 lb parmesan, 2 lb mexican style shredded cheese, case of water.

October 10 Shoprite  $54.92 2 lb red seedless grapes, 8 oz temptee whipped cream cheese, 7.5 oz philly chive whipped cream cheese, 1 lb of Auricchio Provolone, Fresh Express Salad Mixes (no meat) Chipotle cheddar, bacon thousand island, French bistro, sunflower crisp, Mexican style, Southwest and smokehouse chopped salad.  These are delicious, easier than making myself and 1/3 the cost of those salads in a jar I have done in the past.  1 zucchini, 3 lbs of Broccoli Rabe aka Rapini.  Last a 32 oz container of Nathans Half Sour Kosher Pickles.  Just ok.

Already at $300.27         I will start making my own cold Brew again.....or even switch to hot now that it's getting colder, which is even easier.

For a giggle I have looked up the USDA thrifty plan for August 2024 (most recent)

According to this, my family for the thrifty plan should be $1235.30 a month (not including things I make and share with my Mother and Uncle.)

Low Cost would be $1340.60, Moderate $1656.00 and Liberal $2015 per month respectfully.

October 15th Stop and Shop $73.88             16 ounce turkey breast, toasteds rosemary crackers, 1 lb ground chicken, 1.35 lb ground beef, Panera English muffin, Dave's Killer English Muffins, Martins Potato bread, Stok Cold Brew, 2 lbs Premio Sweet Sausage, 1 lb of small carrots, Pepperidge Farms Harvest Wheat Crackers, Oreo Coca Cola Cookies (gross) .55 lb Land o Lakes white American.

October 17th Big Y (via Instacart) $41.99  DD phoned and said Gpa P was asking for things from the store.  He hasn't been eating much, so gladly placed a quick order.  Apple Juice, Orange Juice, Potato Bread, Low Sodium Progresso Canned Soups and a pound of cheddar cheese.

October 21 BJ's Wholesale $152.82       6 gallons of water, 3 lbs of onions, 72 oz Nestle chocolate morsels, 3 lb Hillshire farm lower sodium sliced turkey, whipping cream, potato chips (yes I know) Spreadable butter, 3.5 lbs of popcorn chicken (DD requested) 8 Stok (yes, I know again) 48 count of bottled water, 3 bags of bakery department bagels, 5.86 lb roasting chicken (no farm chickens left, hope to get some in November) large sliced rye and a 6 pk of very good cider donuts.    Yes, I know I should be baking and making my own cold Brew.  Yes I know, potato chips are a want not a need.  We have been eating so many sandwiches, I justify the purchase.

October 21st Aldi's  $42.32   6 Salad Kits, 2 Apple Juice, 2 block cream cheese, 2 whipped cream cheese and peanut butter pretzels.

October 26 Big Y  $50.13    2 bags Martins long rolls, 18 assorted bagels, orange juice, shredded Mexican style cheese 40 oz Hummel's natural casing dogs.

Farm visit October 27 $8.95 for apples.  Last day Farmer Joe's is open until Mid May.

Farm visit October 29 $34.00     8 lbs of Peppers mixed, Swiss chard, large cabbage, winter savory, and shallots.

$704.36         Still below the thrifty.  I guess not bad considering.  Too bad my income hasn't stayed in line with my expenses.   But, we are all in that boat.

If we count my 2025 Farm Share of $512.00 total monies spent for food in October is $1216.36    Still just under thrifty.  Ok, a win!
