Happy 4th of July!

Quiet Day at Home.  Working in the Garden.  Doing Odds and Ends in the House.  I move from project to project trying not to do too much too fast.  Weeded the onion bed.  Dug two holes for the new elderberry bushes.  Picked cukes, basil, peppers, patty pan squash and cabbage.  Read directions to start fermenting cabbage into sauerkraut.  Hung out a load of laundry.  Packed up store shipments.

I had prepped dishes all week in stages.  Chopped all veggies for various dishes. Soaked Beans.  Hard Boiled eggs (instant pot 5 minutes, let sit 5 minutes then chill and peel)  and baked a pound of bacon on a rack in oven 400 degrees for 20 minutes (give or take) .

Cooked diced potatoes in an instant pot on Saturday for 2 minutes, quick release and chill.  Added onion, celery, diced bacon, sliced eggs, salt pepper and mayonnaise for potato salad.

Cooked a pound of elbow macaroni in an instant pot for 4 minutes with 3 cups of water.  Quick release, rinse in cold water.  Added tuna, onion, celery, salt and pepper and mayo plus a jar of drained green olives with pimento.

Beans, molasses, brown sugar, bacon, onion in the slow cooker for 6 hours.

Did a fine chop on a head of cabbage, and then cheated a bit by using Marie's Slaw Dressing.

DH grilled burgers and dogs.

Watched 1776 and other historical movies with DH.  Discussed the past.  Our country's past. One of our favorite pastimes to do together.

I hope we will always be Home of the Free and Land of the Brave.

  1. I prep food for a week or so before a holiday even if we have something simple. However, this holiday we did an extreme cooking session on Sunday.
