Honey Whole Wheat Bread Machine Test

I have been trying to come up with my own bread mix recipes.  I am slowly whittling down the bread mixes purchased from Prepared Pantry when they had some great sales.  Prices now have jumped substantially, and even their sale prices aren't so good.  I understand, everything has gone up.....but I need to start making my own combinations.

I read through dozens of recipes.  This is what I came up with in the order I put them into my Pam sprayed pan.

1 1/8 cup warm water

2 cups whole wheat flour

1 cup white all purpose flour

1.5 tsp salt

3 tablespoons honey

3 tablespoons butter sliced and placed around perimeter of other ingredients

1.5 tspn bread machine yeast (though stored in the fridge, this expired end of 2021....so it is truly a test)

I set the machine to Wheat Setting  and Light Color.

Good 2 lb loaf

Good crumb and chew.

I will make this a go to recipe, however I will use fresher yeast.  I wanted it to rise even higher.

  1. Use extra yeast if you feel yours is showing it's age, and you should* get the rise you are looking for.
