August Grocery Purchases and Elder updates

Really going to try and empty out the freezers this month, as we have a planned trip to PA (where we are starting to look at Real Estate!) but we always bring home foodstuffs and I know I will need room, not only for that, but the excess produce I am growing.

You may notice a lot of bread purchases.  Gpa P (aka Pops) has not been well, and is mainly consuming fruit and toast.  I want to make sure I do not run out of breads for him.

$566.39.   Since I am preparing very nourishing (and for my Grandmother high calorie) meals I am happy with this total.

Grandmother is 99.5 years old.  Still lives alone.  Needs more help yet doesn't want strangers.  I and my Mother and Aunt feel keeping her home is best.   I am there many mornings and Saturday afternoons.  I am happy to do it, and enjoy seeing her more.  I talked to her on phone a lot (yelled mainly as she wears hearing aids) but I see a positive change in her well being with the daily visits.  I also want to make sure she is eating.

This picture makes me smile.  She had beef stew, butternut squash and applesauce in this photo.

Yesterday we started Meals on Wheels for her.  I was there when it arrived.  She found it very exciting to see what they brought.  I was happy she ate all the meatballs, half the roll.  Some spaghetti, some broccoli/cauliflower (who eats these veggies with spaghetti, she kept asking) ALL of the milk and of course ALL of the chocolate pudding.

Gpa P, aka Pops has Kidney stones, a Hiatal Hernia and 3 blockages one in his Aorta.  This has been a long slow journey, insurance is frustrating (the steps to finally get to the test that actually figured out these issues were so slow, costly and unnecessary) He hasn't been well since he was in FL earlier in the summer.   Since he was just slowly fading and not in an emergency state they made him jump through hoops with various tests and xrays to finally get to the CT scan.  Today he meets with the Cardiologist to discuss the options to address his blockages.

I am surprisingly calm with all of these things.  It is the phase of our life and I am okay with it.

  1. When parents and relatives start to go downhill it is hard. Glad you can help and you are right, being there makes a big difference.
