Stepping away from commercial hotel stays

We tend to stay at unique locations when we travel .     Rooms hidden in a village of unique shops .     Hotels that had farm animals .     Antique homes .      This time, booked and paid for by check months in advance we have our own little house .     No maid service.     For the privilege of staying here we have to make our own bed, use towels more than once and save a lot of money .   And look how gorgeous!

We got baked oatmeal, locally made yogurt, DH's favorite coffee cake for breakfasts .   I also brought coffee and water .     We have a soft pretzel for lunch while out for the day .    We do eat dinner out but use coupons . We pay cash for all meals . I know we are blessed to be able to come here so frequently .   How to you vacation?
