Farmers Market and No More SONO Bakery (UPDATE!)

John the owner of SONO has forwarded us his cell.    I am letting Uncle handle the call.    I still won't patronize them, but I am curious as to what the discussion will be.    The nature of the market has now been tarnished in my eyes.   Not so much because we didn't get to purchase what we wanted but because the rules seem to be bent by this vendors staff on more than one occasion.     I will miss their muffins though!

I spent a whole $10.50 on zucchini, corn and broccoli.

The rest was from my market share.  Lovely Swiss chard, fairytale eggplant and tomatoes

Onions, beets and okra

I also will no longer be doing business with SONO Bakery.    On more than one occasion I have witnessed them bagging up product requested by the same person before "the bell" and then taking the cash after the bell.   In the past when I witnessed it happen they just said what we wanted wasn't put on truck.    This time we pushed the topic more, and the semantics used was that they hadn't sold the product yet.    No apology, actually we were treated with indifference and rudeness.    It was suggested that the items had been preordered (the entire time the person who had bypassed the rules was laughing).   My reply to that was a preorder should come bagged for the customer, not taken from the trays for the market.    Shrug was the reply.     As you all know from my posts, I have spent quite a bit at their booth over the years.    No more.   I speak with my dollars (and the emails I sent to city seed and the bakery).  I truly do not expect a reply, but know I was clear and to the point.

  1. I don't understand your complaint. The bell? After the bell. Can you explain?

    1. The rules of the market are no sales before they ring the bell. We wait in line at this particular booth, usually first. But we have seen them speak to people and then bag up product before bell and then take money after the market bell is rung. It just goes against the markets rules.

  2. Having read the letter, I can vouch that it was extremely clear and concise....and well written! I am interested in knowing how this plays out too because we have seen them give preference to people by allowing them to "cut" the line. Sad to think that they believe the product they sell is so good that they no longer need to be fair/courteous to all customers. I think we will be boycotting them for now on...I can find alternatives to G1's monkey bread muffins elsewhere.

    1. Uncle did speak to John the owner who reassured him that the act of putting stuff aside will stop. I probably will still boycott the booth.

  3. I didn't understand the bell either, thanks for explaining. That must be some good baked goods for those shenanigans to happen. Does this mean you won't post any more pictures of those delectable English muffins?! Maybe you can make your own now?

Those okra pods they gave you are far too large. They're supposed to harvest them when they're smaller so they're tender. When they're large like that, they're really tough and not as good. I would mention that to them, that you'd prefer smaller pods. My neighbor, the native Floridian, won't even eat them when they're that size, he cuts them off the plants and composts them right away! I'd probably boil the heck out of them in a soup.

The chard and eggplants are gorgeous. Wow.

    1. I thought the pods were rather large. I did cut blanch and freeze them this time. For a future meal

    2. I do have a recipe for English muffins and will start planning on a day/time to experiment.
